Enrichment Unit

At Cooloola Christian College, our priority is caring for all students. This means being alert to the needs and interests of others;

“Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others." Philippians 2:4 (NIV)

Many students can experience obstacles to learning and using their gifts.

The experienced Enrichment Unit staff work with students, their parents and teachers to assist them to become better equipped to undertake class work, assignments, tests and homework. The staff also organise an afternoon Homework Hub twice per week after school for all students from Years 3 to 12.

Two teachers are employed within the unit. The Coordinator works with teachers and parents to identify and assist with verifications, Individual Education Plans and the implementation of the identified goals for each student. Our other teacher is responsible for our multi-level class of verified students within the high school. Several teacher aides assist in the classrooms or a withdrawal setting, working with small groups or individual students who require assistance.

A priority is given to verified students and those who qualify under the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data as being identified with a disability.  These students are provided with an individual plan, with support to achieve this.  Through regular testing and teacher observation, we also endeavour to identify any specific gaps students may have in areas such as literacy and numeracy.  The emphasis is on being inclusive, equipping students to be involved in the mainstream classroom curriculum as much as possible, while also providing alternate learning programs when necessary.

For those students who are gifted in different areas, opportunities are also provided for developing and exercising gifts in areas such as Opti-MINDS, Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, creative thinking, public speaking, mathematics, science and writing workshops and competitions.

As all children have different God-given gifts and talents we aim to empower each child to fulfil their potential by providing a caring environment which promotes quality learning strategies to cater for all learners; inviting every student to achieve his or her personal best.
